10/10 highly recommend. Where do I begin? Armando is such a delightful, deeply passionate, funny, knowledgeable,... entertaining and overall the best tour I have ever done (and I’ve done a few in Europe recently). My advise, do this on your first day because it’s a great way to orientate yourself with the city, if you can. We did this after all our series of museums visits, and still finding more delightful informarion. I hate to learn history and architecture in a very academic way, and Armando was the perfect teacher and host because he gives your very factual but with added flair , and in such a beautiful and interesting way. He is a magnificent story teller. I beg you, this tour is free so please please please be very generous and prepare your tips in cash, it will be worth more than the museum entry you paid for, wayyy! I wish he can be my tour guide for all the cities in Florence. This man deserves a medal because he makes everyone fall in love with Florence even more!!! Grazie Mille Armando, you are one of the gems of Firenze!PS: the place where he took us to show cantucci- buy a truck load because it’s the best in town.read more

We were treated to a hugely enjoyable tour on our first morning in Florence – it was a great help in orienting... ourselves on our first visit to the city. Armando is a wonderful guide and his knowledge and passion for the city, its history, architecture, food and art are really infectious. We got lots of tips for things to do/see/eat/try that we wouldn't have found otherwise. The children loved it too – bravissimo and grazie mille!read more

Nice walking tour with a friendly City of Florence certified guide, Gabriella. She shared tons of facts and useful tips... about the city, the food, transportation, history and more. The free walking tour is not 'free'. But nothing really is free in this world. The idea is you pay what you wish at the end of the tour. And with the great tour and guidance from your guide, you will be satisfied to pay what your heart wishes. Some peer pressure will be there as some may pay 20€, some 10€, some 5€, but you are not forced to pay anything at all. However, it is definitely recommend to appreciate the guide. The payment will be per person and everything is explained at the beginning of the tour. You are free to leave if you don't like. Also, you can leave in between after excusing yourself if you have to go somewhere. Overall, a nice tour. Much recommended.read more

Brilliant walking tour. Recommend you start out your trip to Florence with it. Manuel was an excellent guide. ... Clever, knowledgeable and funny, he made the 2.5 hour tour fly by. Showed us all the key sights and provided a lot of clear background on the history of the city and the key characters involved in shaping it. He was happy to answer all questions and also provided a great list of food/drink venues, we tried a few of the places recommended and they all great. 100% recommended!read more

What a great way to get to know Florence! Gabriella was our guide and had an amazing gift for storytelling of the... history of the city and sights. She also gave us all sorts of recommendations for food, shopping etc. which was so appreciated. This is a must do! It will be the best, most informative 2 hours of your visit. Fabio was my tour guide. He is clear and offers a wealth of information. However on the 7th stop of 13 stops, I... received a message about a concern for one of my tours that had to be rescheduled. I am only in Florence for 48 hours and want to experience as much as I can. I stepped behind another person in the group and was towards the back, when we called me out in front of the group for being on my phone and that it was a big distraction for him. He literally had to take a couple steps over and lean around and the person in front of me had to move to the side for him to fully see me. The only part of me he would have been able to see from his original position would have been my face over the persons shoulders, where my eyes would have been looking down trying to figure out what other times would work for the tour. I wasn't distracting anyone else in the group and I was still listening to most of what he was saying while trying to sort out my personal situation. Fabio was also distracted by construction sounds and other near by tourists in twonof the stops prior. I wasn't able to walk between sites and dodge people while squaring away the situation and I clearly was too much of a distraction to the guide, so I left the tour. I have done over 10 free walking tours and this was one of the worst experiences I have had or seen for any tourists. So if you plan on not receiving any negative news that needs attention, this is a good tour for you. However, if you are a person, a tourist, and life happens to you, I wouldn't recommend this tour. I would find another where the guides aren't so easily distracted and offended.read more

The tour was fantastic. We learned a lot about the history of the city. Alessandro was a great guide. Passionate... about the history of Florence and manages to convey his passion to tourists. We don't give 5 stars just because we think the "free tour" advertising misleads customers. We were immediately informed at the beginning of the tour that it was expected to pay a final compensation. We were delighted to do so because it was worth it. But we think they should be more correct and truthful with customers and let them know on the website. If the guides are like ours, which I believe they are, people willingly pay for the visit even if they are warned on the booking moment.read more

This tour was everything and more! I came across this free tour by mistake, booked it and wasn't sure that I would go.... I woke up the next morning, had nothing planned and decided to go. This was the best decision ever! The guide was passionate, informative, knowledgeable and thorough. She started and ended on time! I definitely recommend this tour. Did this tour during a weekday and found the city significantly less crowded (easier to navigate and to hear our guide) than it was on a weekend. Highly recommended!read more

We took an English-speaking tour with Daniel on our first evening in Florence. Daniel was personable and helpful, and... the tour was a great introduction to the city that covered the major sites in the historic center and gave us some tips to see more things in detail. The sample bite of panini with local products was a nice bonus! Daniel was happy to provide additional tips after the tour, which we were grateful for since we were staying for several days. Compared to some other tours we've had, Daniel kept the tangents low and we were able to end on time.read more

Nice walking tour with a friendly City of Florence certified guide, Gabriella. She shared tons of facts and useful tips... about the city, the food, transportation, history and more. The free walking tour is not 'free'. But nothing really is free in this world. The idea is you pay what you wish at the end of the tour. And with the great tour and guidance from your guide, you will be satisfied to pay what your heart wishes. Some peer pressure will be there as some may pay 20€, some 10€, some 5€, but you are not forced to pay anything at all. However, it is definitely recommend to appreciate the guide. The payment will be per person and everything is explained at the beginning of the tour. You are free to leave if you don't like. Also, you can leave in between after excusing yourself if you have to go somewhere. Overall, a nice tour. Much recommended.read more

Brilliant walking tour. Recommend you start out your trip to Florence with it. Manuel was an excellent guide. ... Clever, knowledgeable and funny, he made the 2.5 hour tour fly by. Fabio was my tour guide. He is clear and offers a wealth of information. However on the 7th stop of 13 stops, I... received a message about a concern for one of my tours that had to be rescheduled. I am only in Florence for 48 hours and want to experience as much as I can. I stepped behind another person in the group and was towards the back, when we called me out in front of the group for being on my phone and that it was a big distraction for him. He literally had to take a couple steps over and lean around and the person in front of me had to move to the side for him to fully see me. The only part of me he would have been able to see from his original position would have been my face over the persons shoulders, where my eyes would have been looking down trying to figure out what other times would work for the tour. I wasn't distracting anyone else in the group and I was still listening to most of what he was saying while trying to sort out my personal situation. Fabio was also distracted by construction sounds and other near by tourists in twonof the stops prior. I wasn't able to walk between sites and dodge people while squaring away the situation and I clearly was too much of a distraction to the guide, so I left the tour. I have done over 10 free walking tours and this was one of the worst experiences I have had or seen for any tourists. So if you plan on not receiving any negative news that needs attention, this is a good tour for you. However, if you are a person, a tourist, and life happens to you, I wouldn't recommend this tour. I would find another where the guides aren't so easily distracted and offended.read more

We don't give 5 stars just because we think the "free tour" advertising misleads customers. We were immediately informed at the beginning of the tour that it was expected to pay a final compensation. We were delighted to do so because it was worth it. But we think they should be more correct and truthful with customers and let them know on the website. We took an English-speaking tour with Daniel on our first evening in Florence. Daniel was personable and helpful, and... the tour was a great introduction to the city that covered the major sites in the historic center and gave us some tips to see more things in detail. Free walking tour concept has been around for quite a while but is a relatively new way to discover cities compared to the traditional tour concept, which of course has a much longer legacy.
One question we are asked regularly is “how can the tours be free?”. The tours are ‘free’, because unlike regular tour providers’ services, there is no set price for taking a tour, no prescribed fee to pay regardless of the tour experience itself.
